Insurance

Many insurers include coverage for acupuncture treatment.
Oasis of Harmony Wellness is currently in-network with CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.

* At this time, Medicaid and Medicare do not cover acupuncture.
* If you do not have insurance coverage through CareFirst BCBS, you may submit for reimbursement from your insurance company. Oasis of Harmony Wellness will do whatever paperwork necessary for you to submit for reimbursement.
* OHM Wellness highly recommends checking your benefits before attempting to use your insurance.
* Per your insurance carrier, insurance coverage information provided to Oasis of Harmony Wellness is not a guarantee of payment. Claim payment is subject to plan rules. Treatment costs not covered by insurance are the patient’s responsibility to pay.

Insurance Frequently Asked
Questions

  • Using the phone number on the back of your insurance card, call your insurance company to find out how much acupuncture will cost for you. If you need assistance, send an email to jess@oasisofharmonywellness.com

  • Oasis of Harmony Wellness submits a claim to your insurance carrier after your visit, and then the insurance carrier will process the claim. After the claim is processed, the insurance carrier sends you and Oasis of Harmony Wellness an Explanation of Benefits, which breaks down the cost of the visit.

There are two ways that we can work payment for the first appointment.

You can pay the flat rate for your treatment and Oasis of Harmony Wellness will adjust or reimburse payment once the claim is processed.

Or Oasis of Harmony Wellness can keep a credit card on file and will charge the appropriate amount to your credit card once the claim is processed. No charges will be made to your credit card without communicating with you first.

  • Sometimes the information we receive from your insurance carrier does not match what happens when they process the claim. In cases where the correct amount due to Oasis of Harmony Wellness was not paid by you at the time of the visit, Oasis of Harmony Wellness will reach out and let you know what you owe. If you paid more than you were supposed to, then Oasis of Harmony Wellness will refund the overpayment via whatever payment method was used.

  • Usually, unexpected charges are the result of a deductible being applied, or because our records indicated a co-pay not being collected at the time of the visit. Sometimes the insurance carrier changes the terms of coverage, and as a result, your co-pay increases or a deductible may be applied that you didn’t have when we first checked the details of your acupuncture coverage. Occasionally, patients with insurance that is not local may have trouble getting their insurance to pay for their visits to Oasis of Harmony Wellness, even when the plan covers acupuncture.

The insurance process is mostly automated, but there is also room for human error on the part of the insurance carrier or on the part of Oasis of Harmony Wellness, so please contact us if something seems off.

  • Not all CareFirst plans cover acupuncture. If you have a different co-pay then someone else with acupuncture coverage through CareFirst, you probably have a different plan than they do. The specific plan determines the details of your acupuncture coverage, and each insurance carrier offers many different plans.

  • If you get a bill from Oasis of Harmony Wellness and you can’t pay it right away, we are happy to set up a payment plan that works with your budget. Email jess@oasisofharmonywellness.com for more information.

  • Deductible: Amount that you have to pay out of pocket before your insurance will start to pay anything toward your acupuncture treatments. If you are paying off a deductible, you would expect to pay Oasis of Harmony Wellness at the time of each visit until the deductible has been paid off entirely.

Co-Pay: Flat fee amount that is due from you to Oasis of Harmony Wellness at the time of each visit.

Co-Insurance: A percent of the amount the insurance carrier agrees to pay to Oasis of Harmony Wellness for each visit. In many cases, we are able to translate that co-insurance to a dollar amount so you know what to pay at each visit.

Visit Limits: Either a set number or a dollar amount your insurance carrier agrees to pay for acupuncture treatments in a plan year. This includes all acupuncture visits, including ones that you had with other providers. This also includes all visits that applied to your deductible.

Plan Year: Date your insurance plan begins. This is usually January 1. Any deductible, visit limits, out of pocket maximums will start over on this date. Also, if your insurance carrier is going to make any changes to the terms of your insurance, it will happen at this time.

Out of Pocket Maximum: The maximum amount you will have to pay out of pocket in a plan year for all medical services your insurance covers. If you pay that amount, then any co-pays or co-insurance amounts are no longer due from you until the next plan year begins.

  • Right now, Oasis of Harmony Wellness is only in-network with CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. There are plans to expand to other major insurance carriers in the future, so keep checking back.

In the meantime, if you have acupuncture coverage through your insurance carrier, Oasis of Harmony Wellness can submit the paperwork necessary for reimbursement. Oasis of Harmony Wellness also accepts FSA and HSA payment.

  • Oasis of Harmony Wellness contacts your insurance carrier directly either by phone or through the carrier website. In order to access patient information, Oasis of Harmony Wellness is registered as a provider with your insurance carrier and will verify benefits using the information we get from you.
